Join the Insect Army!

This a re-blog from John Scalzi’s wonderful post about indie writers and small publishers’ writers – in short, us.

 Join the Insect Army!.
I’m a soldier of John Scalzi’s army and proud of it. I’m a fantasy writer with a small Canadian publisher – a fantasy cockroach.
Sounds scary, doesn’t it?

Yes, Ursula Vernon is a fabulous artist. She has such wonderful art on her site! Trolls and other freakish creatures, so cute. Yummy.

I don’t see why this is such a huge deal. Publishing means “to make public” and lots of authors self-published or had family publish them. Don’t get me wrong – I think there is something to be said for having someone else see the validity in your work and putting out the money to have it produced, but I’ve read enough best-sellers to put aside any notion that big publisher = quality. Maybe it’s that I’m a little spoiled in my part of the world and that our indie arts have some inherent respect.
